Natural sponge from the sea

Sea sponges and their skin he alth benefits

What is a natural sea sponge/sea sponge?

Sea sponges have existed for millions of years. They resemble algae, but in fact they are not sea plants as they do not grow through photosynthesis. So sea sponges are multicellular organisms that are classified as animals. However, they have no nervous, digestive, or circulatory systems. Your body is made up of pores and channels through which water circulates, giving you oxygen and nourishment.

Sea sponges were used by many cultures including the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans

Of the 5000 species of sea sponges, fewer than 12 are harvested for commercial use. Sea sponge harvesting is an environmentally friendly and sustainable industry. If harvested properly, sea sponges will grow back within a few years and their population will increase significantly.

Natural sponges can regrow after harvest, so they are considered a sustainable resource

As sea sponges grow, reproduce and survive as plants, they are considered by many to be vegan-friendly

Are sea sponges better than synthetic sponges?

Sea sponges are always a better alternative to foam sponges. Synthetic sponges are made from petroleum products and contain triclosan, an antibacterial chemical that can have negative effects on our nervous and endocrine systems.

Natural sponges provide gentle cleansing and are great for everyday use

In contrast, natural sponges are biodegradable. They are hypoallergenic because they contain no harsh chemicals, artificial ingredients, or toxins. They are very absorbent, fairly soft and don't absorb odors.

In fact, natural sponges contain enzymes that inhibit the growth of mold and bacteria. This has a positive effect on their lifespan and if they are well cared for, they can last for several years.

Sea sponges inhibit bacteria

A natural sponge is dense with a soft, velvety texture, ideal for scrubs and excellent for sensitive skin

Sea sponges contain minerals that are good for the skin, including calcium, magnesium, sodium, iron, zinc and potassium. Suitable for all skin types, they gently exfoliate leaving skin feeling fresh and soft. The rough surface of natural sponges helps to remove dead skin cells and keep pores free of impurities.

Natural sponges are exceptionally soft, making them a good choice for people with sensitive skin. They are also suitable for baby skin. They also last much longer than synthetic sponges.

Care of sea sponges

Allow the sponge to air dry completely between uses. It is best to hang it up instead of laying it on a surface. Never put it in the dryer, microwave, boiling water or bleach. If the sponge is a little frayed around the edges, simply cut off any loose parts with scissors.

You also have to care for a natural sponge properly

While natural sponges can naturally inhibit bacterial growth, they cannot completely prevent this process. To regularly disinfect the natural sponge, try one of these methods:

    Mix together
  • ¼ cup hydrogen peroxide and 1 cup water. The Soak the natural sponge for about 10 minutes and rinse well.
  • Add a few drops of tea tree oil to 1 cup of warm water. (Tea tree is an effective germicide). Soak the natural sponge for about 10 minutes and rinse well.
  • Mix 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with 1 cup of warm water and soak the sponge for about 10 minutes, then rinse.
  • Dissolve 1 tablespoon of baking soda in a cup of water and soak the sponge for about 10 minutes, then rinse.

Your bath sponge can look like new for years
