Like every year in February, many well-known actors, filmmakers, producers and all cinema fans are waiting for this year's Oscars ceremony. On February 24th, the mega event will take place at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles and the Hollywood elite and numerous famous representatives of the film world will be there. This is the 91st Academy Awards ceremony and accordingly it will be televised live. The new Oscar nominations for 2022 are already known, but we won't find out who will win an Oscar in the individual film categories until the last Sunday in February 2022. As a little anticipation for the big film event, we have prepared some interesting statistics for you today. Below we show you our favorite stars who have received the most Oscar nominations. However, how many times each of them has received an Oscar is certainly also interesting for most cinema fans.

Meryl Streep has more Oscar nominations than any other actor.

  • Why is the Oscar prize so coveted?

The presentation of this coveted film award already has a 90-year history. The well-known 34 cm tall statuette is considered the highest award for work in cinematic art. It is made from solid Britannia metal and plated with a thin layer of 24k gold.

Only after the award ceremony will the name of the winner, the Oscar category and the title of the film be engraved on the base of the statuette. Where the name Oskar came from for this first-class film award has not yet been clarified and will most likely remain so. The US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) is now the first to list Oscar nominees each year. These are divided into 25 categories. The award ceremony takes place in February every year and is accompanied by much speculation.

The German actor Emil Jannings with his Oscar 1929.

  • Germans who have won an Oscar film award

The fact that German participation in the Oscars has already been crowned with a number of prizes. At the first award ceremony in 1929, Emil Jannings won the Oscar for "Best Actor". We also have an Oscar winner for Best Original Score for the film The Lion King and that is Hans Zimmer. Volker Schlöndorff also won the longed-for prize with the film "The Tin Drum" (1979) and Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck with the movie "The Lives of Others". This year his film "Werk ohne Autor" is also on the list of Oscar nominations. He's trying to win an Oscar in the non-English language film category. We keep our fingers crossed.

"The Tin Drum", the film adaptation of the well-known novel by Günther Grass, brought director and screenwriter Volker Schlöndorff the Oscar title.
